What you get
Being selected is the start, not the finish. Here is where a live song shows up, what listeners do with it, and the numbers you see back.
Where your song shows up
A live song joins the catalog the daily seven is drawn from. Each listener's seven is picked for them, weighted toward the genres and languages they chose and the songs they have liked, and never a song they have already been shown. That means your song reaches listeners it fits. It sits in the same set as every other song, with no separate artist section and no lower tier.
What listeners see
A cover, your song title, your artist name, and a button to listen that names the platform, such as "Listen on Spotify". Tapping it sends the listener to your song on that platform. If you have given us links for several platforms, they are sent to the one they prefer. Life of Art does not play the audio itself, so every play happens where you already are.
Listeners can also like a song. A like goes straight to you, as part of the counts below.
The numbers you see
In My Submissions, each live song shows three plain counts:
- Shown to: how many listeners were shown your song.
- Likes, with a percentage: how many liked it, and what share of the listeners who were shown it that is.
- Taps to listen: how many tapped through to hear it on your platform.
It reads like this. These numbers are made up, to show the format:
Shown to 40 listeners · 6 likes (15%) · 9 taps to listen
If a song has not been shown to anyone yet, you see "Not yet shown to any listeners". That is not a failure. It only means it has not reached a daily set so far.
How to read them
- Lean on the percentage, not the raw count. "6 likes" means little alone. "15% of the people who heard it" says something.
- Small numbers move a lot. With a few dozen listeners, one more like changes the percentage a great deal. Wait before you decide anything.
- Compare your songs with each other. Which one landed more strongly with the people it was shown to? That is the useful question.
- Taps and likes tell different stories. A tap means the cover, title, and artist made someone curious. A like means the song held them.
None of this is a score of how good your music is. We wrote about why in why your streaming numbers don't reflect your talent.
What it does not do
- It does not promise a number of listeners, likes, or streams.
- It does not count your plays on streaming services. Those are counted by the platform you linked.
- It does not pay for listens, and it does not charge you.
Staying in the loop
You are told when a decision is made, by email and by push message if you have notifications on. Your numbers update in My Submissions as listeners respond.
What it costs
Nothing, right now.
